Assigned new number 972.23.13. Use original number.
Nick Ross donated a number of marine artifacts in 1971. All were reassigned new numbers (sometimes twice). These new numbers were physically applied to a few of the artifacts, other artifacts have their original numbers and many were not numbered at all. For consistency, artifacts that had been renumbered were returned to their original numbers and unnumbered artifacts that could be identified with some certainty were tagged with their original number - 10/2007
Many of marine artifacts donated by Nick Ross are visible in the blue "Display Inventory" binder of old exhibit photos. This is a good reference as it shows the exhibits before the fire in 1989 but unfortunately these photos do not indicate catalogue number.
A photograph of this marine artifact could not be found in museum records including the blue "Display Inventory" binder. The description of this artifact fits the description of a red buoy with black top located on the third floor near the east wall of the Fishing and Trapping T&E exhibit. The red buoy is not marked with an accession number, but is assumed to be the artifact donated by Nick Ross - 05/2013
