- Frederick W. Howay, the author of vol. II, was the first teacher at Canoe Pass School, the municipality's second school, which opened in 1884. Howay, a nephew of canneryman Alexander Ewen, became a famous judge, orator and historian. He married William and Mary Ladner's daughter, Sarah Louise. he also became the first teacher at Delta's third school, the Boundary Bay School, when it opened in 1886.
